Relationships are the most important aspect of life, much more important than money and financial security. A rich man that does not enjoy good relationship would live an empty life, even with his abundant finances. A good relationship brightens up life, and a poor one makes life feel very sad and meaningless. There are a few factors that will push relationship up the right track.

The first would be trust. If trust does not exist between 2 persons, then the relationship cannot be a fulfilling one. Maybe it wouldn’t go down, bit it certainly would not go up. There is no trust without honesty and transparency. When both parties are comfortable of being open with each other, and always say the truth, regardless of situations, then a culture of trust is solid between the two. That means saying what you mean, whether you are happy or upset. There is no relationship worse than one where trust is non-existent.

Secondly, know to play the game of the balance of power. Power exists in all relationships: parents and children, superior and subordinate, teacher and student, friends and couples. Power exists anywhere, between any. Power could be defined as how one behaves when faced with another person. For example, a military officer would have more power than a subordinate, when it come speech and everything. Likewise, in the case of couples, the balance of power can be shifted according to situation. Giving power requires respect and self-control. A great play of power balance will make a good relationship.

Last but equally as important, a good relationship requires both parties to compromise for each others’ sake. Because every one of us views the world in their own lenses, it’s not too uncommon to find a point where you would disagree with each other. Then, you would need to solve the problem in one out of 2 ways. The first is to quarrel. This is very immature and hurts that love that exists. The second is to take a step back and compromise. This should be the ideal way disagreements should ever be solved. A quarrel is an example of a lose-lose situation, so it’s not wise to blow up.
